Undertow

The film officially starts with the company logos; this is in every broadcasted professional film.

The opening begins with a blurred effect, the credits are written in a bright colour to accentuate the writing.  During this shot the background appears to have a blue tone, therefore the audience automatically assumes it is an early morning due to the lighting, thus the opening setting is outside.

However, where the exact setting is remains unclear and so the audience feels suspense for the revelation of the location.
The scene begins to change colour as well as becoming clearer, the viewer is now aware of a character in the film.

The scene begins with an isolated person in a wide shot, a gloomy atmosphere is shown through the use of greyscale. Moreover, the colour suggests a past event, so time fluctuation plays a part in the film. As the character is facing away from the audience there is no clear indication of the events that may follow.

The scene then changes to a close up of the waves, yet the character has disappeared. The audience becomes curious of what might have happened and so they become enthralled in the story.
