5) How did you attract/address your audience?
The sound used in the beginning establishes the thriller genre, the over voice with an extremely low pitch reflects a scary atmosphere; this would be used to appeal to an audience interested in mystery and the extraordinary. Films which include voice overs such as ‘Goodfellas' or ‘Fight Club’ use them to describe the scene, express the character’s inner thoughts or create a narrative. A voice over is used in ‘Sacrifice’ to introduce the scene and to present the theme of mystery.
The young girl speaking into the camera addresses the audience directly, her constant warnings of ‘they’re coming’ leads the audience to feel unprotected and fearful; which will guarantee the audience to revel in the thrill and excitement caused by my main task. To appeal to my target audience of males and females aged 15-25, I incorporated different methods to appeal to this social group. .
The casting of my main was in order to interest to a young female audience, as the group may be able to relate to the main character, being that she is a young girl also. The themes present in the film are to entice an older audience of males and females.
‘Sacrifice’ concentrates on themes of murder, cultism and sacrifice, which will be themes which may be more comprehended by an older audience. To appeal to young boys, the film contains scenes of violence, blood and gore, which may appeal to a young male audience as this is a social group who usually have an interest in this style of film.
