Psychological

Psychological thrillers focus on mental and emotional struggle, unlike a horror thriller the conflict is often not physical. Themes in psychological thrillers can range from mental illness such as schizophrenia to emotional abuse by a character. As this focuses mainly on emotions and mentality rather than physical action, the main audience for psychological thrillers could be female as it may be more appealing to this gender.  Psychological thrillers use mystery and suspense, these are codes of thrillers.

The story lines of this subgenre may appeal to an older audience as it relies on the intelligence of the audience to follow the story line, especially if the plot includes editing techniques such as cross-cutting or the movie uses hallucinations, abuse or adult themes.  Therefore, the ideal age group would be between the ages of 25-40; this is over the common age group of thriller viewers but this is a group who are more likely to understand the plot.

The socio-economic class of people who are more likely to enjoy this would be in the C1-C2 category because these are employed people who do not necessarily have jobs that will take up a long time, therefore they would have more time than a person in the B category to enjoy a thriller.
