Film Plot

Original Idea:

-An elderly woman is in the kitchen making lunch for her and her husband.

- She enters the living room to give her husband the tea.

- She begins a conversation with him.

-Camera turns to show a dead body.

The complications with this plot is that the story-line was unclear as the climax seemed to be at the beginning of the film, the plot was predictable and unrealistic as there was no clear indication of what led to the death of the husband. Moreover, the friendly domestic setting overshadowed the genre of thriller and so the film looked mediocre.

Second Idea:
- Casual setting of two teenage girls in a school toilet.
- Victoria reveals a secret to her friend Olivia.
- A mystery person in the toilet is eavesdropping on their conversation.
- The girls are unaware of the other person
- The mystery person is seemingly evil.

The story line was based on typical teen dramas such as 'Pretty Little Liars' as I wanted my film to target a similar target audience to the show's. However, the location for the filming was ideal yet the plot was too short and lacked the excitement and shock that a thriller should provide.

Final Plot:
Overall Plot of Film:
Young women are being kidnapped and sacrificed for the beliefs of a cult. One of them has brought a hidden video camera, in order to expose the cult and hopefully be saved in time before she is chosen to be sacrificed.

Opening Sequence:
A young girl is talking to a video camera
- she is warning the audience about a group of people and asking for help
- A mystery character is shown to be entering an unknown location
- we begin to see the young girl slowly becoming insane
- the scene ends with supposedly the mystery character entering the room
- the young girl is then tortured by the unknown character.

The reason I chose this plot was because it contained typical conventions of thrillers, offered an interesting and gripping story line as well as allowed me to create a film in an unusual manner (video diary). It also gave me the opportunity to present two different time frames as the plot of the mystery character walking is continuous. However, the video diary entries from the young girl are set between a time frame of several weeks. Therefore, the fluctuation of time in the opening as well as the narrative drew my interest to this film.

Ideas:
The genre I had chosen for my main task was a psychological Thriller. I brainstormed numerous story lines that I could use for my film. I wanted my opening sequence to end on a cliffhanger and to include various conventions of thriller.
