1. The most popular subgenres from my query were drama thrillers (4 people answered this) and psychological thrillers (5 people answered this).

1. What sub-genre thrillers do you prefer?
 

2. People’s expectations from thrillers included “mystery, suspense and surprise”. However the general belief of the aim of a thriller was to scare the audience.  However, I believe that this should be an objective of a thriller depending on the sub-genre such as horror-thriller may be more scary than other subgenres.
Furthermore, according to shotlist.com there are a range of thrillers which definitely do not scare the audience such as
• The Mangler which is sci-fi thriller about a demon possessed laundry folding machine. This doesn’t particularly appeal to the aim of scaring an audience.
• Killer Shrews, Sci-fi thriller which involves a group of people trapped on an island being terrorised by mutant shrews. The people who I questioned didn’t find this to be a film which thy found to be scary.
These examples of thrillers which challenge the belief of the sole aim of thrillers being to scare the audience and therefore this may be the popular opinion but is not necessary for creating a thriller.

- Want to be scared whilst being entertained.
- Are more excited by thrillers and are keener on being scared.
- Because it is inappropriate for young children
- People over the age of 35 are uninterested​

3. Who do you think the target audience for most thrillers are? And why?

My questionnaire was targeted at a female audience and therefore psychological thrillers and drama thrillers are mostly popular with a female audience..​
