2)How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The social group that is represented in my main task is female teenagers who are between the ages of 15-18. The lead female character in my main task is primarily presented through her physical representation; the costume worn by the character and facial expressions.

Films such as Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Marnie’, include female characters who are identified through their beauty. The young blonde woman is common social group found in the thriller genre.

Another typical representation of women in thriller is the “damsel in distress”; this is involves women depicted as emotionally and physically weaker than men.  Thrillers such as 'Psycho’ highlight the vulnerability of women as they are usually the victim.

People of a young age are normally presented as vulnerable. This is reinforced by the bruises on the characters face which show her fragility. The costume worn by the character emphasises the innocence as the light blue pyjamas signifies her youth. The thinness of the straps portrays the character as delicate due to the feebleness of the clothing.
